My calendar illustrations have a topic every year. This year I thought of the courage to play. Ability to play and wink at oneself with kindness is so much needed yet not always easy.
THE STORY
Since January 2026 I’ve been creating a lot in my sketchbooks. They served my pleasure only – I’ve not been publishing them so that I won’t start to create “for the content” and loose the lightness and joy on the way. My first idea for the calendar was to scan the chosen sketchbook pages and use them directly as the illustrations. That would be lovely, too, but one of the problems was that most of my sketchbooks are tiny and I wanted something bigger. So finally – I started creating new paintings, about 25 of them, with the playful approach I had while sketching just for fun. I hope they’ll bring you just as much joy and lightness in 2027! Or later, if you’ll decide to frame some of your favourites. 🙂
THE PRACTICALITIES
The calendar consists of 12 loose sheets + one additional (front) sheet with the story and instruction, fastened with a clip. The pages can be hung together like a traditional, bound calendar, or separately – for example one or two pages displayed on the fridge, wall, etc.
I’ve created it all manually – from drawing up the grid, hand-printing the dates to painting the illustrations. Than the original prototype is scanned as one and printed digtally. This way I enjoy the print quality the most.
A3 version will provide quite a lot of writing space in the date box – it will be good for people who like to track the upcoming events offline. A4 will be good for people who mostly enjoy the ritual of switching the page every month or live with the limited wall space. Date numbers in both sizes are bold and easy to read.
I’ve marked Polish bank holidays with big blue circles; leave me a note if you’d wish me to mark bank holidays of your country of residence. Weekdays and months names are in Polish and again – I can manually write a translation for you.
It’ll be printed on off-white 120g ecological paper – thicker than standard copy paper but thin enough so that the separate pages stick well to the wall of fridge. It’s lovely for writing, with a pencil or fountain pen especially.
